Dance, Music, Arts & Crafts
Creative expression is at the heart of ASA’s Afterschool program. Through dance, music, and art activities, children explore their talents, boost self-esteem, and develop coordination and fine motor skills—all while having fun.

Safe, Fun, and Caring Environment
We prioritize each child’s well-being by creating a nurturing space where they feel safe, supported, and valued. Our staff is dedicated to fostering social, emotional, and intellectual growth, so children can thrive both in and out of the classroom.

Our Expected Learning Outcomes
In small learning groups of no more than six students per teacher, our students master at least 150 Chinese words in their first academic year and learn to use them fluently and accurately in everyday conversations. By the second year, their vocabulary expands to 300–500 words, fostering both a growing interest and solid foundational skills in the Chinese language and culture.

FAQS
How many days of instruction are there per week?
Language acquisition is most effective through active, consistent, and immersive learning. We recommend a minimum attendance of two days per week to ensure meaningful progress.
What are the proficiency levels? What is the age range and student-to- teacher ratio?
Each class at ASA Chinese Immersion Afterschool is limited to a maximum of six students per teacher, with an assistant provided for our youngest learners. We believe that small class sizes are especially effective for second-language acquisition, allowing for more personalized instruction and greater student engagement. Students are grouped by age and language experience to ensure they feel comfortable and supported, creating the best possible environment for learning Mandarin while having fun.
What kinds of content and skills are taught?
Each level at ASA Chinese Immersion Afterschool follows a tailored curriculum designed to match the students’ proficiency. For instance, beginners focus on building a strong foundation in Chinese characters through fun, immersion-based activities, including reciting Tang poems. After one year of Mandarin learning, students will have mastered vocabulary related to colors, fruits, time, numbers, body parts, and other essential grammar. They will also be able to recognize and write around 300 Chinese characters and form simple sentences.
Advanced students, on the other hand, are encouraged to write short stories based on given pictures. They are also challenged to engage in conversations with both teachers and peers, helping them become more comfortable using Mandarin in everyday situations.
Language learning is deeply integrated with Chinese culture, allowing students to communicate more effectively by understanding the cultural context behind the language. Great emphasis is placed on this cultural immersion, where even activities like cooking classes and clean-up time offer opportunities to engage with the language. Through these fun and interactive experiences, language acquisition becomes a natural and enjoyable process.
